Alexis work focuses on iconic representation of the figure as a vehicle to explore raw emotional states. She manipulates the human form through photography, drawing and painting to create singular powerful images that speak to feelings of memory and loss. Alexis lives in Baltimore City, where she is a practicing artist and art educator. She is on the faculty of the School of Art & Design at Montgomery College and Howard Community College. She has been a guest lecturer and instructor at the Maryland Institute College of Art and The Walters Art Museum. Alexis earned her BA from Rutgers University and her MFA from the New York Academy of Arts Graduate School of Figurative Art. At the New York Academy, Alexis studied with Vincent Desiderio, Wade Schuman, Jenny Saville, Harvey Citron, Deane Keller, and Edward Schmidt. She completed additional studies in figurative painting and sculpture through Syracuse University in Florence, Italy, and at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. Her work has been shown in galleries along the East Coast, including the Dahesh Museum in New York City and Sandarac Gallery in Baltimore, MD. |
